Some new images from Rob Zombie’s latest, THE LORDS OF SALEM, have shown up online, courtesy of his Facebook page. The first two images are of Sid Haig and Michael Berryman, looking every bit as creepy and scary as you’d expect from a Zombie film.
The film’s synopsis from IMDB is as follows: Heidi, a blond rock chick, DJs at a local radio station, and together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster) forms part of the “Big H Radio Team.” A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, a gift of the Lords. She assumes it’s a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords’ record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma. Later, Whitey plays the Lords’ record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with his listeners. The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon, Heidi and her cohorts are far from the rock spectacle they’re expecting. The original Lords of Salem are returning and they’re out for blood.
Still a bit vague in terms of what to really expect, but check out these behind-the-scenes photos to get a feel for some of the make-up and sets. Looks very gritty and atmospheric and with a whole lot of nipples.
Zombie seems to be a love him or hate him kind of filmmaker, so if you’re into his work this will likely get you pumped. I dig his films and am happy to see him doing something original rather than tackling a reboot of a tired franchise. He seems to excel at what he does best when not trying to appease the masses with an established property.
The film stars the aforementioned Haig and Berryman, as well as Zombie favorites Sherri Moon Zombie, Udo Keir, Clint Howard, Dee Wallace, Billy Drago, Maria Conchita Alonso, Bruce Davison, Lisa Marie, and our favorite Brady Bunch boy, Christopher Knight.
No release has been set, but I’m sure the stakes will start burning sometime this year.
