New images from Guardians of the Galaxy and trailer premiere info

By now, you have probably heard the rumor of the impending premiere of the trailer for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY hitting the internet this week, and now we have the official confirmation of when we can see it along with a trio of new images from the film.

USA Today has the new details on the movie and that the trailer will premiere on Jimmy Kimmel Live tomorrow night (February 18th) at 11:35pm EST. This will be our first look at official footage from James Gunn‘s movie after months of bootleg Comic Con teaser footage and still images. Here’s hoping it lives up to the hype. The article also shares some new details about the plot of the movie.

The movie teams five disparate personalities: Peter Quill (Pratt), aka Star-Lord, was taken from Earth as a 9-year-old, possesses a mysterious orb artifact and pilots the Milano, a muscle car of a spaceship. Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is connected to Thanos, arguably the cosmos’ biggest baddie. Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) is a muscular dude you don’t want to upset. And then there are the aliens Rocket Raccoon and Groot (computer-generated characters voiced by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, respectively), who are best pals and potentially the biggest things to happen to pop culture since Chewbacca.

Their stories converge in the space prison Kyln. After the characters break out, they venture to Knowhere (the severed head of a celestial being that serves as a hangout for aliens) and visit the weird menagerie of the Collector (Benicio Del Toro). They also have to avoid two villains, Ronan (Lee Pace) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), who are in hot pursuit of Quill’s orb, which has the power to destroy the galaxy.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is definitely drawing parallels to STAR WARS rather than other Marvel adaptations, which is a good thing. The space-set adventure is not your traditional AVENGERS-style team and shouldn’t be looked at as such. I am loving what we are seeing so far and hope the movie delivers. We will find out tomorrow when the trailer hits if the anticipation is worth it, but then it will be a long wait until the movie hits theaters on August 1, 2014.
