Toy lines for tentpole films are nothing new. George Lucas helped make the practice famous with STAR WARS and that trend has continued over the last forty years with films like ALIENS, GHOSTBUSTERS, and even CONEHEADS. As Mel Brooks' Yogurt says in SPACEBALLS, "Merchandising! Merchandising! Where the real money from the movie is made!" Well while we wait for Spaceballs the Flamethrower, we'll just have to content ourselves with various other Funko Pops and the like.
Unfortunately, sometimes toy lines also serve as spoilers for the actual film. This happened with SHREK with Cameron Diaz's ogre action figure of Princess Fiona and the toy that revealed Paul Rudd's Giant-Man for CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, months before the film debuted. Well it appears as though the same situation has happened again, this time regarding the upcoming monster film GODZILLA VS. KONG. The spoiler in question involves everyone's favorite Toho kaiju and his ape enemy.
A toy fair in Hong Kong apparently unveiled the upcoming lineup for director Adam Wingard's forthcoming monster fest. While many of the images have since been taken down, several toy enthusiasts snapped a plethora of pictures at the event. The results were quite revealing:

Those with an astute eye will undoubtedly notice several interesting features about these toys. Firstly, King Kong is noticeably bigger and sporting armor and a club. Kong's size makes sense considering KONG: SKULL ISLAND indicated the youthful primate was still growing. Although why and how Kong got that body armor is anyone's guess. You'll also notice that Godzilla himself has several pieces of red armor attached to his backplates. However, the biggest surprise is the inclusion of a Mechagodzilla toy. Although fans have long suspected the metallic monster might appear in the upcoming creature feature, this is the first indication that it might actually happen. It's important to stress however that the presence of a Mechagodzilla toy does not guarantee he will show up in the film.
GODZILLA VS. KONG was supposed to come out just two short months from now on March 13. However, as JoBlo reported back in November of last year, the film has since been pushed to November 20, 2020. The film stars Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgard, Rebecca Hall, and Brian Tyree Henry.
So what do you guys think? Is this toy line legit or a misdirection? Do you want Mechagodzilla to show up in GODZILLA VS. KONG? Sound off in the comments below!
