So I read about this, going into it thinking that I would be the happiest person ever to hear that the third GHOSTBUSTERS film will finally be made. I was wrong, but at the same time sort of happy. I hope this makes you all happy as well.
According to Variety, Vivendi Games and Sony Pictures are teaming up to bring GHOSTBUSTERS to a small screen, in the form of an interactive videogame. The entire core original cast with supporting actors including Annie Potts are set to come back and bring their voices and likenesses to the game, which will be written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The game will take place shortly after the events of GHOSTBUSTERS 2, with a new ghoul invasion plaguing New York City.
“We noticed we did well on ‘Scarface’ and were alert for new opportunities to turn iconic film products into games in a way that is a new manifestation of the franchise,” Vivendi Games CEO Bruce Hack said. “‘Ghostbusters’ is unquestionably among the small number of movies in that class.”
All I have to say is f**k yeah. Yeah it may not be a film but at least these people are realizing that the GHOSTBUSTERS phenomenon isn’t dead! I mean, Hank Braxtan has made 2 very successful fan films, one being a feature for cryin’ out loud! And it’s a hell of a lot better then the god awful NES games that came out.
The game is scheduled to be released in 2008, and I will definitely be all over that. If you want to check out the Variety article to learn more about Sony and Vivendi’s partnership, click here!
