I'm looking forward to the upcoming Amazon Prime series JEAN-CLAUDE VAN JOHNSON, simply for its audacious premise. Basically, Jean-Claude Van Damme is actually a kick-ass super spy, who only acted in films as a cover for his ops. Not only that, but the pilot that was screened last year was actually funny! It wasn't perfect (the whole "go at him one-at-a-time" joke fell pretty flat), but there's a good possibility of it growing and getting better with time.
And the trailer embedded above looks pretty promising! I especially liked JCVD's earnest speech about "when one sense is gone, the others heighten", while his colleague responds, "I don't think that applies to vision…when driving". Honestly, the whole premise is a tonal tight-rope – get too goofy and it takes away the stakes of the spy aspect, make it too serious than it comes into question how he's able to keep surviving on luck – but it seems they're on the right track. Let's hope it stays that way.
But what do you Schmoes think? You down for some JOHNSON? Either way, sound off below!
Meanwhile, JEAN-CLAUDE VAN JOHNSON will begin streaming on Amazon Prime December 15th!
