Ok, so we've known for a while that Platinum Dunes was working towards bringing us a new FRIDAY THE 13TH film, and this past Friday we learned that the next film will not be a sequel or remake of their 2009 effort but will instead focus on a different story of Jason and will likely take place in the 1980's as the producers "want to recover the feel of the first film". So far, so good, right? Now Omelete is revealing that iconic character Pamela Voorhees may return to the franchise as well, and it sounds as if she'll play an important part in the storyline.
Platinum Dunes producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form were onhand at Brazil’s comic con CCXP and explained that Pamela Voorhees will be returning. The following quote from Omelete is a rough translation, but you'll get the gist of it as it seems to point out that the producers want to tether the new film to the original film's storyline in some fashion.
We wanted redeem the whole mood of the decade…Sex, drugs, always beautiful people dying; these things do not change. And we can develop more problematic relationship with the mother."
Could this imply that Pamela Voorhees will still be alive in this new film, or is this 'problematic relationship' between mother and son all in Jason's demented mind? Either way, I'm excited to learn more. I just want Jason back on the big screen.
Also, it's worth noting that we don't have to worry about a watered down return to the franchise as the producers were quick to point out…
“There is no PG-13 version in the world of Jason Voorhees.”
That's right! Give us the hard-R Jason we all love, with plenty of gratuitious violence and nudity.
How could this news not excite you? I know I'm stoked! Now if they'd just set the story during winter I'd be one happy fan! We'll be sure to bring you more on the new FRIDAY THE 13TH as we hear it.
I don't see a 'problematic relationship' here. Do you?
