A featurette about the 3D that will be used in DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES has been released, and while it does contain some new footage (which is always nice) I was more impressed with director Matt Reeves' comments on his upcoming film. In the featurette, Reeves talks about how the 3D helps the world he has created in DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES feel real, and says the most important aspect of the film is the emotion of the characters.
Check it out:
Although I wasn't too worried, I'm glad to hear Matt Reeves say the characters and their emotions will play a major role in his new movie. Awesome CGI and motion capture work is great, but it won't matter if we don't care about the characters. Take for example Gary Oldman's character. Instead of being a straight up villain, it seems like his reasons why he thinks we should fight the apes are legit, and I don't think his character will just be "evil" or "bad." DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES looks like it's going to be a very impressive sequel, and I can't wait to see what Caesar and the rest of the apes will be up to in the new movie.
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES will be in theaters on July 11th, 2014.
