Today we have an exclusive featurette for HITMAN: AGENT 47, the newest adaptation of the popular videogame franchise, which stars Rupert Friend as the titular character with stars Zachary Quinto, Hannah Ware, Ciarán Hinds (Mance Rayder!), and Thomas Kretschmann (Baron Von Strucker!) joining in the fun. The featurette gives a better understanding of the character for those not already well-versed and also sheds some light on the overall story and motivations for this iteration.
Take a look:
Here's the synopsis:
HITMAN: AGENT 47 centers on an elite assassin who was genetically engineered from conception to be the perfect killing machine, and is known only by the last two digits on the barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. He is the culmination of decades of research and forty-six earlier Agent clones — endowing him with unprecedented strength, speed, stamina and intelligence. His latest target is a mega-corporation that plans to unlock the secret of Agent 47's past to create an army of killers whose powers surpass even his own. Teaming up with a young woman who may hold the secret to overcoming their powerful and clandestine enemies, 47 confronts stunning revelations about his own origins and squares off in an epic battle with his deadliest foe.
I wasn't a fan of the Timothy Olyphant version (although I AM a fan of Mr. Olyphant) and have never played the game, so this is kind of a blank slate for me. At first glance it seems like just another shoot-em-up videogame adaptation, but it also has a slickness to it that I'm hoping remains steady in the final film. Friend feels like an unlikely choice for the role, and yet there's something about that aspect that makes it work. We'll find out when it finally debuts, but I'm optimistic for this one.
HITMAN: AGENT 47 "hits" theaters on August 21, 2015.
