As announced back in November, The Walking Dead character Morgan Jones, played by Lennie James, will be at the center of a crossover between that show and its companion series Fear the Walking Dead. Morgan, who was introduced in the first episode of The Walking Dead, will be appearing in the upcoming fourth season of Fear the Walking Dead.
James started working on Fear just one week after finishing work on the eighth season of The Walking Dead. Cameras were there to show us his first day on set, and he was seen participating in a table read with Fear stars Alycia Debnam-Carey, Frank Dillane, and Colman Domingo.
Now Entertainment Weekly has taken the previews a step further, releasing the first two images of Morgan in scenes from Fear the Walking Dead. Since Fear is set earlier in the zombie apocalypse than The Walking Dead, fans have been wondering how Morgan could have possibly had a side adventure with the Fear characters in the midst of his back story. We don’t have the answer to that question yet, but EW’s pictures do seem to indicate that Morgan met the Fear people sometime after he learned aikido, because he has his trusty staff with him. That would mean that the Fear timeline, which began at the start of the zombie outbreak, is now beyond season three of The Walking Dead.
Fear the Walking Dead has new showrunners for season four, with Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg taking over from Dave Erickson. Chambliss had this to say about the addition of Morgan to the series:
As Morgan Jones steps into the world of FTWD, he’ll be continuing the journey he began on The Walking Dead way back in the pilot. Ian and I were huge fans of the character when Lennie James first brought him to life back then, again when he returned in season 3, and finally when he became a series regular in season 6.”
Fear the Walking Dead’s new season will likely begin airing on AMC sometime this summer. In the meantime, Morgan’s story continues in the second half of The Walking Dead season eight, which will resume on AMC on February 25th.
