The trailers for Ben Stiller's THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY continue to impress as this new extended one adds another layer of awesome to the previous entries. However, it makes me nervous in terms of expectation, as we all know how a great trailer can outsell a movie that doesn't live up to the hype. Reviews of the film from NYFF were mixed, with some loving it and others not, so it's hard to say where this one will fall with audiences. But, if the trailers are any indication, I think we're in for a good show and a much-needed fantasy adventure film that doesn't cater to tiny tots. My fingers are crossed.
Take a look:
I think the music will make a huge difference for the film, as the selections for the trailer have been stellar. Using Of Monsters and Men, Jose Gonzalez, and St. Vincent, the film takes shape as something more emotional, cerebral, and didactic than, say a comedy about a male model turned unwitting assassin. I'm hoping that the final music for the film fits this mold or the link that's made these trailers so engaging may be lost.
THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY starring Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig, Adam Scott, Sean Penn, Kathryn Hahn, Shirley MacLaine, and Patton Oswalt hits theaters on December 25, 2013.
