Over this past weekend during Disney's annual D23 celebration, the studio announced a variety of new additions to their Disney Parks locations. Among the attractions mentioned – such as "Avengers Campus" and the "Journey of Water" walk-through section based on the company's 2016 animated smash MOANA – the House of Mouse was thrilled to share details about the upcoming “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser” experience. Surprisingly, the attraction isn't a roller coaster, interactive ride, or even a haunted house filled with the souls of dead Jedi. The park's “Galactic Starcruiser” allows guests to board the Halcyon for a two-night vacation experience meant to get you as close to a space vacation as possible.
Here's the official description for Disney's “Galactic Starcruiser”:
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, invites guests to embark on a two-night adventure aboard a glamorous starship. During this first-of-its-kind vacation experience, you’ll interact with characters and become an active participant in immersive stories that unfold over the course of an unforgettable galactic journey on board the starcruiser (to be called the Halcyon).
Doesn't that sound amazing? But wait, there's more!
According to CNN Travel, the “Galactic Starcruiser” experience will have guests embarking on a cruise into outerspace. As a part of the trip, guests will arrive and return at the same location, "checking-in at a terminal at Walt Disney World and then take a simulated launch-pod into space to board the starcruiser."
Upon arriving on the ship's main deck, guests will interact with an alien crew, will learn about the ship's intricate navigation and defense capabilities, and will train in the art of lightsaber "swordsmanship." In fact, one of the ship's activities sees visitors interacting with a lightsaber simulator aimed to help young Padawans develop keen eye-hand coordination skills that will no doubt aid them in the battles that are sure to come. Another aspect of the cruise will find guests enjoying a "port day" at Batuu, the fictional planet of Disney's "Galaxy's Edge" land. According to Ann Morrow Johnson, Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering, choices you make aboard the Halcyon will determine the remainder of your stay.
Are you ready to experience Disney and Star Wars like never before? Do you err on the light or dark side of the Force? Are you ready to get sloshed at the Cantina bar? I sure hope so, because those Dark Side Draft beers aren't going to drink themselves. Have fun, and may the force be with you, always!
