Back in February, an alternate trailer for 22 JUMP STREET featured a closing sequence with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum undercover as Latinos trying to close a drug deal. The brief segment lasted less than thirty seconds but now we have a longer look at the sequence in the first clip from the movie.
Part of what worked in 21 JUMP STREET was how easily Tatum and Hill fit in with the high school crowd they were infiltrating while this scene highlights why that may be their niche and they should stick to it. Jenko and Schmidt undercover as gang-bangers is funny in just how stereotypical their portrayal is along with Tatum’s inability to name any characters outside of DORA THE EXPLORER.
After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don’t have to just crack the case – they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.
The fact that directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord are back for 22 JUMP STREET means we are likely going to get a film on par with the original. At the very least, we will get a fun ride with some great cameos. At best, we will get a quality comedy in the middle of an action-packed summer season.
22 JUMP STREET is back on the case on June 13, 2014.
