A new high-speed trailer for GETAWAY has zoomed online courtesy of Warner Bros. and it looks like one hell of a smash and grab. Cheesy, high-octane, and filled with mass vehicular carnage, GETAWAY looks to have all the trimmings of a tight and fun car chase flick, especially when you toss in Ethan Hawke as the lead and John Voight as the villain. Hawke has a ferocious intensity when he turns up the volume and I get a little goosebumpy when he starts yelling at folks as he does in this new trailer. Could you imagine a customer service complaint from Hawke?
Put it in gear:
Here’s the synopsis:
Former race car driver Brent Magna (Hawke) is pitted against the clock. Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake, taking it and its unwitting owner (Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.
Simple premise, simple concept, simple fun. That’s what I’m hoping for, anyway. I know that a lot of folks are viewing Selena Gomez as a stain on this one, but I’m more than willing to overlook it if her role is more than a hood rat hacker with a heart of gold or something. She certainly has displayed her desire to branch out from the Disney Junior crowd of late, starting with SPRING BREAKERS, so perhaps this is just another step into some more grown-up material. Either way, I continue to be intrigued by GETAWAY. Plus, I’m just a sucker for explosions and car chases, so there’s that.
GETAWAY hits the road on August 30, 2013.
