New book covers the in-depth history of Stephen King’s The Stand

Like many of you out there, I am a massive fan of Mr. Stephen King. That said, and stick with me here, I have yet to read King's magnum opus THE STAND. I know, I know, you sound like my mother. I have every plan to get on the book… which I've been saying for years. But I guess its like how I have yet to see my favorite horror director Wes Craven's THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW. I'm saving them for a rainy day, I guess.

But speaking of Stephen King's THE STAND, today we have word that a new book is on the way which tells the story behind the story of King’s 1978 novel and explores the various incarnations and adaptations that followed in the four decades since.

It's called This Dark Chest of Wonders: 40 Years of Stephen King’s The Stand and it's written by Andy Burns (who also wrote the TWIN PEAKS book Wrapped In Plastic). It will be published as a Hardcover Signed Limited Edition limited to just 1,000 signed copies personally signed by the author on a unique signature page, and comes at a retail price of just $40!

Here's the rundown:

In September 1978, Stephen King published The Stand, a massive, post-apocalyptic story that captured the imagination of his growing legion of Constant Readers, introducing them to his ultimate villain, Randall Flagg. Over the course of time, the tale of good and evil only gained in popularity, leading to the 1990 publication of The Stand: Complete and Uncut, which gave audiences the author’s original vision for his novel.

In This Dark Chest of Wonders: 40 Years of Stephen King’s The Stand, Andy Burns tells the story behind the story of King’s enduring opus and delves deep into its various incarnations — the unfilmed George A. Romero adaptation; the 1994 ABC mini-series; the audiobook; and Marvel Comics’ adaptation.

The book is said to feature exclusive interviews with King experts and collaborators Bev Vincent, Robin Furth, Mick Garris, Jamey Sheridan, WG Snuffy Walden, Grover Gardner, Ralph Macchio, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and Mike Perkins. Andy Burns' This Dark Chest of Wonders: 40 Years of Stephen King’s The Stand will be released via Cemetery Dance Publications in November.
