Warner Bros. has just let fly a flock of new images from BIRDS OF PREY (AND THE FANTABULOUS EMANCIPATION OF ONE HARLEY QUINN), the studio's glitzy, glitter-covered feature from director Cathy Yan and writer Christina Hodson. Much like the film's energetic trailers, these new pics do much to highlight the colorful characters, outrageous costumes, and off-the-wall antics that are sure to ensue when the film blasts into theaters on February 7th.
As you'll see in the gallery provided below, the new stills show everything from Harley playing roller derby to Ewan McGregor's Roman Sionis getting acquainted with some new headgear for his Black Mask persona. The pics also depict what I can only assume are some tender moments shared between the gorgeous ladies of Gotham, including a photo of Harley and Cassandra enjoying some much-needed "girl time," as well as Harls and her pet hyena, Bruce, going full LADY AND THE TRAMP with a strawberry-flavored Twizzler.
When Birds of Prey swoops into theaters, fans of Daddy's Little Monster should be prepared to get hit upside the head by a very different Qweenpin of Crime. In addition to the new film being R-rated, it's been advertised that Harley will be embracing her new lease on life after kicking her abusive relationship with Joker to the curb. Emboldened by her beloved Birds, Ms. Quinn and her sisters in slaughter will find themselves rattling the cages of villains the likes of Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) and Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina).
Yo, BIRDS OF PREY (AND THE FANTABULOUS EMANCIPATION OF ONE HARLEY QUINN), can you please just take my money already? My body is more than ready for the seemingly manic energy of this movie, and I know plenty of other people who are excited to see what Harley and the gang can dish out when Black Mask comes to rain of their parade. With so many nods to Ms. Quinn's comic book history already on display in the trailers, I've no doubt that Birds of Prey has been handled with care. Here's hoping that the film exceeds expectations at the box office, and paves the way for more female-fronted films in the DCEU.
