The third entry in the RIDDICK franchise, the simply-titled RIDDICK, is just a week away and it’s looking like a pretty balanced effort to bridge the two previous efforts to the continuing story of the night-vision enabled Furyan played by Vin Diesel. Since 2000’s PITCH BLACK fans have asked for more of the hard-edged character and were given the sequel, 2004’s THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, which was met with varying opinions, although enough favor to merit another venture. In this new featurette for the film, Diesel and director David Twohy talk about their original intentions with the franchise, the story details, and overall tone of the sequel.

Here’s the synopsis:
Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, Riddick finds himself up against an alien race of predators. Activating an emergency beacon alerts two ships: one carrying a new breed of mercenary, the other captained by a man from Riddick’s past.
I’m looking forward to this one, as are many fans of the series. I enjoyed both PITCH BLACK and THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK for their individual strengths and overall dark, fun, sci-fi tone. This is Diesel’s signature role and definitely his strongest in his franchise reportoire and as long as they feel there’s a story to tell, I’ll be happy to keep watching.
RIDDICK, starring Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Katie Sackhoff, Dave Bautista, Jordi Mollà, and Bokeem Woodbine goes dark on September 6, 2013.
