New Avatar 2 set-photos show off the fun of underwater motion-capture

As we know, the AVATAR sequels will be exploring the underwater world of Pandora, and although I'm sure that any other director would simply cheat the whole underwater aspect (reasonable, considering that it's entirely CG), James Cameron said, "f**k it, we're doing underwater motion-capture. Dive in, bitches!" Okay, maybe he didn't say that exactly, but an entirely new technology had to be developed in order to film the motion-capture sequences underwater.

The official AVATAR Twitter account has posted a couple of photos featuring the underwater motion-capture at work, which also features Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Kate Winslet, and Cliff Curtis. Check 'em out below!

Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will once again be playing Jake Sully and Neytiri, respectively, but Kate Winslet and Cliff Curtis are new additions to the franchise. Winslet is playing Ronal, a free-diver of the reef people clan of the Metkayina, and Curtis is playing Tonowari, the leader of the Metkayina. The four AVATAR sequels are slated to hit theaters on December 17, 2021, December 22, 2023, December 19, 2025, and December 17, 2027, but as production has been forced to shut down due to COVID-19, it remains to be seen whether we'll see those dates pushed back.
