Although Duncan Jones' WARCRAFT can count itself as the highest grossing video-game movie of all-time, it certainly wasn't the hit that Legendary Pictures was hoping it would be and did little to break the so-called "video-game curse". There's still a chance that the curse could break before the final petal of 2016 falls, as Justin Kurzel's ASSASSIN'S CREED is due to hit theaters in less than a month. Adapted from the popular Ubisoft series of the same name, ASSASSIN'S CREED follows Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender), a criminal who was rescued from his own execution by Abstergo Industries, the modern-day incarnation of the Templar Order. Lynch is then forced to relive the memories of his ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha, in 15th Century Spain through a technology known as The Animus.

A recently released clip from ASSASSIN'S CREED featured Michael Fassbender entering The Animus for the first time, and now a new featurette for the upcoming film dives into the concept of genetic memory and the science of The Animus.

An official synopsis for ASSASSIN'S CREED:

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

ASSASSIN'S CREED will be released on December 21, 2016.
