New Angel Has Fallen trailer explodes with bullets, betrayal, and intrigue

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Ah, there's nothing like the smell of deception on a hot July afternoon. As you're likely to know, trust is not something that's easy to come by with regard to the government, so what's a Secret Service Agent to do when their best laid plans go tits up and they're framed for an assassination attempt on the President? That's what Gerard Butler's Mike Banning is about to find out when ANGEL HAS FALLEN explodes onto screens come August 23.

Here's the official synopsis for ANGEL HAS FALLEN:

When there is an assassination attempt on U.S. President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman), his trusted confidant, Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), is wrongfully accused and taken into custody. After escaping from capture, he becomes a man on the run and must evade his own agency and outsmart the FBI in order to find the real threat to the President. Desperate to uncover the truth, Banning turns to unlikely allies to help clear his name, keep his family from harm and save the country from imminent danger.

Directing the third installment of the over-the-top action franchise that includes OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN and LONDON HAS FALLEN is SNITCH helmer Ric Roman Waugh. The latest chapter in the series stars Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lance Reddick, Tim Blake Nelson and Piper Perabo, with Nick Nolte and Danny Huston.

Aw, doesn't this trailer make ANGEL HAS FALLEN look like a rousing father-son romp? My old man might not be around anymore, but if he was, I've no doubt that he'd be a survivalist nightmare by now. He was always a bit of a conspiracy nut, and I could totally see him wanting to go "off-grid" in these modern times. Whoa. Did I just forge an emotional connection to Gerard Butler and Nick Nolte? I might have some daddy issues, I think. Oh well, ANGEL HAS FALLEN still looks like stupid fun. In the past, I'd enjoyed the previous films in the series quite a bit, so here's hoping that the latest ride is action-packed.

In addition to today's trailer, the studio also dropped a series of new posters for the film:
