Neve Campbell lands Avalon lead for David E. Kelley

Neve Campbell will lead this season’s Avalon, produced by TV juggernaut David E. Kelley. The ABC show is based on co-producer Michael Connelley’s short story.

The series “takes place in the city of Avalon on Catalina Island, where L.A. Sheriff’s Department Detective Nicole “Nic” Searcy (Campbell) heads up a small office. Catalina has a local population that serves more than 1 million tourists a year, and each day when the ferries arrive, hundreds of potential new stories enter the island.”

Avalon will continue Neve Campbell’s TV run. She, of course, started her rise to fame on television with Fox’s Party of Five. She has been quite busy, currently starring in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, also created by Kelley and based on a Connelly source. That series isn’t to be confused with the 2011 Matthew McConaughey movie, which was based on the novel of the same name, whereas Campbell’s show is based on the sequel, The Brass Verdict. Avalon is based on one of Connelly’s short stories. Kelley will write the pilot.

It was announced in February that Avalon was ordered straight to series, meaning it was greenlit without a single episode being produced. The Comey Rule’s Steven Pasquale co-stars alongside Campbell.

Campbell made headlines earlier this year after announcing she won’t reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in the forthcoming Scream 6, citing pay disparity. “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
