Wes Craven's SCREAM is – in my opinion – one of the best slashers ever made, while also being a really great satire and deconstruction of one at the same time (which is not an easy feat to pull off). Even its sequel – SCREAM 2 – was pretty good (even if it was somewhat compromised by an early internet script leak). Now, the READY OR NOT directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are working on what many believed to be a reboot of the SCREAM franchise, but might actually be a sequel (though definitely unrelated to the recent MTV television series).
This is because according to star Neve Campbell – who played the protagonist Sidney Prescott in all four SCREAM films – she has been in talks with the directors about possibly joining the film. Here's what she had to say in an interview with YouTube's Jake Hamilton:
They’ve come to me and we’re having conversations. It’s a little hard at the moment because of COVID to know when that’ll happen and hopefully we can see eye to eye on all the elements that have to come into place for it to happen…I originally had been really apprehensive about doing another Scream without Wes because he was such a genius and he is the reason they are what they are but the directors have come to me with such a great appreciation for Wes’s work and they really want to honor it and that meant a lot to me…Hopefully we’ll be able to do it
However, as Campbell said, current events have made it impossible to make any concrete plans – especially when it comes to any sort of complex production – but we'll keep you updated as this develops, nonetheless.
But what do you guys think? Looking forward to a new sequel? If so, would you prefer it with or without Campbell's Sidney Prescott? Either way, sound off below!
