Should SCREAM continue without Sidney Prescott? Well, we may not have to find out as it appears that Neve Campbell's iconic survivor might just have a part to play in the next installment of the SCREAM franchise. The actress recently spoke with YouTube's Jake Hamilton and said that she's had conversations about returning to the franchise.
There have been rumblings of a fifth SCREAM film for some time, but the project took a big step forward in March when Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed READY OR NOT, stepped in to helm the new movie. Kevin Williamson, who wrote three of the four SCREAM movies, is also onboard as an executive producer for the new film, which is rumoured to "follow a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes" Now, back to Neve Campbell.
They’ve come to me and we’re having conversations. It’s a little hard at the moment because of COVID to know when that’ll happen and hopefully we can see eye to eye on all the elements that have to come into place for it to happen.
"I originally had been really apprehensive about doing another Scream without Wes because he was such a genius and he is the reason they are what they are," Campbell said, "but the directors have come to me with such a great appreciation for Wes’s work and they really want to honor it and that meant a lot to me. Hopefully we’ll be able to do it." Much like Campbell, I was also apprehensive about SCREAM moving forward without Wes Craven, but if Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are able to give us something new, I'm open. There's obviously no guarentee that the new SCREAM will involve the original cast, but I've said before that I could see them going the legecy-quel route with a largely new cast supported by a few members of the original films.
Would you like to see Neve Campbell return for SCREAM 5? Or should the film feature a totally new cast?
