Netflix’s Locke & Key Season 2 already in the works

Netflix's upcoming adaptation of NOS4A2 author Joe Hill's hit comic book series LOCKE & KEY is (finally) headed our way next month. And today we have word from showrunner Carlton Cuse (LOST, BATES MOTEL) that Season 2 is already in the works.

Cuse says:

We're writing Season 2, even though it hasn't been greenlit. We're working in a room.

Fans worry this version will eventually diverge so much from the books that the story will become unrecognizable. Cuse said that's a possibility, but he's determined to tell the right story.

We can't really answer that question yet. I think by the time we get to the end of the season, we'll have a better sense of how much longer the show can go. We've spent a lot of time talking with Joe [Hill], and I think, in concert with Joe, we'll figure out the answer to that question. I mean, it is a cool ending, but again, the show's diverging from the comics and it becomes something [else]. We want to be sure that the ending works for the TV series and we're not just forcing ourselves into an ending for endings' sake. We want the ending to be something that really feels like it's the right conclusion for our story.

The series begins

after their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens — and will stop at nothing to steal them.

It stars Jackson Robert Scott as Bode Locke, Connor Jessup as Tyler Locke, Emilia Jones as Kinsey Locke, Sherri Saum as Ellie Whedon, Griffin Gluck as Gabe, Darby Stanchfield as Nina Locke, Laysla De Oliveira as Dodge, Petrice Jones as Scot, Thomas Mitchell Barnet as Sam Lesser, Steven Williams as Joe Ridgeway, Kevin Alves as Javi, Asha Bromfield as Zadie, Felix Mallard as Lucas Caravaggio, and Eric Graise as Logan Calloway.

Netflix's LOCKE & KEY was created by Hill and developed by Carlton Cuse, Aron Eli Coleite, and Meredith Averill. Hill wrote the first episode with Coleite. Cuse and Averill are the showrunners. Michael Morris directs the first two episodes. LOCKE & KEY hits Netflix on February 7, 2020.
