Emma Roberts is no stranger to genre television, having taken on roles in American Horror Story and Scream Queens, and now she's going to be producing some genre television herself. Roberts is set to executive produce, through her company Belletrist Productions, the vampire series First Kill for Netflix. The streaming service has already ordered eight one-hour episodes of the show.
First Kill is based on a short story by author Victoria "V.E." Schwab, who is also creator, writer, and executive producer on the series. Felicia D. Henderson is also writing on First Kill and serves as the showrunner.
The synopsis:
When it's time for teenage vampire Juliette to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope. But much to Juliette's surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter, from a family of celebrated slayers. Both find that the other won't be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for.
Roberts' Belletrist co-founder Karah Preiss will also be executive producing.
Schwab's story was published in the short story collection Vampires Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite. Copies of the book can be purchased HERE.
First Kill is a "wait and see" for me. There are teenage vampire stories I love and some I'm not into at all, so I'll have to see how the show looks before I can say whether or not I want to watch it. The title is cool, though.
