Later this year we will see the release of AMC's 10-part adaptation of Joe Hill's novel NOS4A2 starring Zachary Quinto. And not just that. Netflix has ordered a 10 episode first season based on Hill's IDW comic book series, LOCKE & KEY. And it looks like the Joe Hill train is going to keep right on a-rolling as today we have word that Netflix won a three-studio bidding battle to acquire rights to an upcoming short story by Hill called FAUN.
Here was the pitch presented to buyers:
Narnia. Hogwarts. Neverland.
All magical places that mortals can travel to and marvel at the strange creatures and wonders not seen in our world. What if a door to a magical land was discovered and instead of pure-hearted adventures, a man saw an opportunity to charge a fortune for an exclusive private game reserve where you can “bag” a magical creature. Multi-millionaire Tip Fallows is a recreational hunter looking for more interesting challenges. Another wealthy hunter, Stockton, has a secret to share and a journey to offer. All they need to do is pay a quarter of a million dollars to go through a little door in an old house in rural Maine.
We see a supernatural adventure film that bring a fresh magical take on The Most Dangerous Game.
I don't know about you but I find this to be one hell of a winning pitch. Plus I love the detail thrown in there that the only way to reach this magical land of boogedy-boogers and fairies and whatnot is "a little door in an old house in rural Maine." That's pretty classic I must say. Jeremy Slater (FOX's THE EXORCIST TV series) will write the script and Michael Sugar will produce through his Sugar23 banner with Ashley Zalta. The story will be published in a new short story collection in the fall. We'll let you know once we hear more. But what do you think thus far? Let us know below!
