Netflix to stream horror comedy Vampires Vs. The Bronx in time for Halloween

In the immortal words of HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA's Count Dracula, "Blah blah blah!"

Screenrant revealed today that Netflix is ready to sink its fangs into VAMPIRES VS. THE BRONX as a part of its 2020 "Netflix and Chills" lineup of spooky content. In searching for reactions to the news online, cinephiles are already likening the film to ATTACK THE BLOCK but with vampires. If that's not enough to get your blood pumping I don't know what will.

Directed by Saturday Night Live alum Oz Rodriguez, the film focuses on a group of young friends from the Bronx fighting to save their neighborhood from a band of vampires. In addition to serving as the project's director, Rodriguez also co-wrote the script with Blaise Hemingway (PLAYMOBIL: THE MOVIE). In talking to Screenrant about filming a more personal story, Oz revealed the following:

"Growing up in the Dominican Republic I watched many adventure films with kids that didn’t look like me. Moving to New York and experiencing the rich multiculturalism of the city inspired me to write a new kind of adventure story. There’s a lack of stories reflecting some of the communities of the city, especially those dealing with gentrification. I’m excited for kids to hopefully see themselves represented on the screen as our heroes save their marginalized community."

In order to defend the Bronx against a horde of blood-sucking vampires, Rodriguez has assembled a formidable cast in Jaden Michael, Gerald W. Jones III, Gregory Diaz IV, Sarah Gadon, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Shea Whigham, Coco Jones, Joel “The Kid Mero” Martinez, Chris Redd, Vladimir Caamaño, Jeremie Harris, Adam David Thompson, Judy Marte, Richard Bekins, and Zoe Saldaña.

"When it came to portraying the neighborhood we wanted as many New York actors as possible. As a Dominican I was excited to work with so many great Dominican actors like Jaden, Kid Mero, Vlad, Judy, and the newcomer Zoe Saldaña," Rodriguez explained to Screenrant's Rob Keyes. He also mentioned that Saldaña has a brief cameo in the movie. "It was a challenging shoot but our young trio of vampire killers Jaden, Gregory and Gerald made it look easy."
