A trailer for a mind-bending new sci-fi series from Netflix has arrived online just days before the company intends to release the show through their streaming service. Titled The OA, this show was so efficient at flying under the radar during its production that many are calling it Netflix's "surprise" or "secret" series.
The OA was created by actress Brit Marling and director Zal Batmanglij, who previously collaborated on the films SOUND OF MY VOICE and THE EAST… movies that had avoided my attention before the announcement of The OA, so I might need to seek them out if their Netflix show impresses.
The first season of The OA will consist of eight episodes, all of which have been directed by Batmanglij. Marling stars as
Prairie Johnson, a missing blind woman who finally returns to her family after seven years with her sight restored. Though Prairie is said to "remember everything," she refuses to talk about what happened to her during her time away from home, leaving viewers to contemplate what exactly befell her all those years ago.
Also in the cast are Emory Cohen, Scott Wilson, Phyllis Smith, Jason Isaacs, Alice Krige, Patrick Gibson, and Brendan Meyer.
I don't know what's going on in The OA, but it certainly appears to be packed with great visuals. You can see those for yourself in the trailer below, and if the show looks interesting to you be sure to log in to Netflix on December 16th, when all eight episodes will be made available for viewing.
