Netflix to premiere Dreamworks series The Adventures of Puss in Boots

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Netflix and Dreamworks Animation have enjoyed a nice partnership the last few years. While Dreamworks has taken their time with theatrical sequels to their hit films, they have used the streaming service to premiere the further adventures of characters from movies like TURBO and MADAGASCAR. Now, PUSS IN BOOTS will see his own series come to life.

Next Friday, Netflix will begin streaming the first season of Dreamworks’ THE ADVENTURES OF PUSS IN BOOTS, a spin-off of the theatrical movie PUSS IN BOOTS, itself a spin-off from the SHREK franchise. While the animated series will not feature the voice talents of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, or Zach Galifianakis, it will bring the feline hero back into the limelight as the studio prepares the sequel, PUSS IN BOOTS: NINE LIVES AND FORTY THIEVES, which is set to hit theaters on December 21, 2018.

Here’s the synopsis for the series:

THE ADVENTURES OF PUSS IN BOOTS finds the world’s most famous feline fortune-hunter in the hidden city of San Lorenzo, a mythical land that is invisible to the outside world thanks to a magical spell that protects its quirky inhabitants – not to mention its wondrous treasure. When Puss in Boots accidentally breaks the spell, he must do more than fight off an endless legion of invaders and marauders … he must become a legend.

The series will feature the voices of Jayma Mays, John Leguizamo, Danny Trejo, Jim Cummings, and John Rhys-Davies. The first clip has appeared online and you can see it below. Again, like the other Dreamworks series TURBO: F.A.S.T. and ALL HAIL KING JULIEN, the animation is scaled back and does not look as good as the feature film work. Still, fans of the films will likely enjoy the new series.

THE ADVENTURES OF PUSS IN BOOTS debuts on Netflix on January 16, 2015.
