So apparently Netflix is going to be making a "super violent" CASTLEVANIA animated series, based on the Konami videogames of the same name. However, the show will reportedly be based primarily on the third entry CASTLEVANIA III: DRACULA'S CURSE, which is about "the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself."
IGN spoke with producer Adi Shankar (DREDD, THE GREY), who elaborated on the project, saying "This is very much CASTLEVANIA done in the vein of GAME OF THRONES…[and] going to be R-rated as f*ck!" He goes on to say that none other than Warren Ellis (TRANSMETROPOLITAN) is serving as a writer and producer on the show, who "added so much depth to the material.". Shankar also said AKIRA and YOUNG JUSTICE were visual influences on the show.
Honestly, this all sounds pretty badass! I like the idea of making it violent and for adults, instead of whatever the hell this guy is from CAPTAIN N THE GAME MASTER:
But what do you Schmoes think? Any CASTLEVANIA fans out there? And if so, you guys down for a CASTLEVANIA animated series? Sound off below!
The show will reportedly begin streaming on Netflix sometime later this year.
