One upcoming genre project I'm really looking forward to is writer/director Charlie Kaufman's I'M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS, an adaptation of author Iain Reid's "deeply scary and intensely unnerving" debut novel (which you can buy a copy of at THIS LINK). Kaufman won an Oscar for co-writing ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and was nominated for his BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and ADAPTATION screenplays, and I'm very intrigued to see what a psychological thriller from the writer of those films is going to be like. Thankfully, we don't have to wait much longer to find out.
Netflix has announced that I'M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS will be available to watch on the streaming service as of September 4th.
Brie Larson was attached to star in the film when it was first announced, but had to drop out before it went into production. The role ended up going to Jessie Buckley of the Chernobyl mini-series. Buckley was joined in the cast by Jesse Plemons, Toni Collette, David Thewlis, and Colby Minifie.
The story of I'M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS centers on
a woman’s uncertainty of her relationship with her boyfriend, Jake. After an uncomfortable and confusing trip to meet Jake’s parents at their isolated farmhouse, reality unravels and events spin out of control when Jake and “The Girlfriend” make an unscheduled stop at an abandoned high school.
Kaufman produced the film alongside Likely Story's Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu. Reid co-produced.
