The first trailer for Netflix’s first Indian horror series is here, and it looks terrifying as all hell. GHOUL is a three-part miniseries and marks a collaborative effort between Blumhouse (GET OUT, SPLIT, INSIDIOUS), Phantom Films and Ivanhoe. This is the second Indian original from Netflix after last week’s SACRED GAMES, and further continues the streaming service’s plans to add more foreign-language content to their slate.
The story revolves around an ambitious young soldier named Nida Rahim (Radhika Apte), who turns her own father into military authorities for interrogation. But it doesn’t take long for things to start going wrong, and soon an evil is unleashed that brings demonic forces to the surface, turning the prison into hell on Earth.
From the makers of Insidious, Get Out and Udta Punjab – Ghoul is a chilling series about a prisoner who arrives at a remote military interrogation centre and turns the tables on his interrogators, exposing their most shameful secrets. You can fight the demons of this world but what about the ones that aren’t?
At first glance, the trailer looks like a standalone feature, so it’s intriguing to think about how the project will stretch the premise over three parts. This first trailer is eerie, intense and teases a claustrophobic atmosphere to match the demonic scares, and looks like a perfect premise for a small miniseries. There are other horror anthology series out there, like AMERICAN HORROR STORY, but those play like dramas with some freaky stuff thrown in. This comes off like a genuine horror film that spans three parts, so I'm anxious to check it out and see if I'm brave enough to make it through it all.
All three parts of GHOUL hit Netflix August 24.
