Netflix renews pint-sized superhero drama series Raising Dion for season two

We're only two days into the new year, and already Netflix is bringing some welcomed announcements to the table. It's recently been revealed that Netflix has renewed the superhero drama RAISING DION for a second season. This exciting news arrived online today via a tender and inspiring video featuring beloved Senegalese painter Bou Bou painting a gorgeous portrait of the series leads Nicole (Alisha Wainwright) and the pint-sized hero Dion (Ja’Siah Young).

Carol Barbee will once again act as showrunner for the second season which will include eight one-hour episodes. The concept for RAISING DION is based on the comic book and short film of the same name by Dennis Liu. For the first season, the story focuses on a woman named Nicole (Alisha Wainwright) who raises her son Dion (newcomer Ja’Siah Young) after the death of her husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan). The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several mysterious, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat (Jason Ritter), and protect Dion from antagonists out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.

Michael B. Jordan remains attached to the series and will return as executive producer alongside Kenny Goodman, Kim Roth, Dennis Liu and Charles D. King’s MACRO for the show's sophomore season. The renewal of RAISING DION will come as no surprise for those who've been tracking the show's overall performance on Netflix. In addition to being ranked #10 as Netflix's most popular series overall, RAISINS DION was the streamer's most popular title aimed at kids and families.
