Netflix renews Ozark with Jason Bateman, Laura Linney for season three

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Coming out in 2017, OZARK quickly became one of Netflix’s most streamed shows, earning some awards attention along the way. This year’s second season has received similar levels of buzz, which means that Netflix is going to keep this train filled with murder and deception going, officially confirming a third season is on the way.

Created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, the show stars Jason Bateman (who also produces) as Marty Byrde, a man who relocates his family to the Ozarks in Missouri, and while there gets swept up into the world of drug cartels and dirty dealings. Both Bateman and Laura Linney as Marty’s wife Wendy have earned acclaim for their performances, and the former was recently was up for a Golden Globe and two Emmys for acting and directing.

Bateman announced the new season with an ominous tweet, which is the appropriate kind of tweet given the general grimness of the show.

Here is the plot synopsis for the second season, which debuted last month:

Ozark continues to follow Marty Byrde and his family as they navigate the murky waters of life within a dangerous drug cartel. With Del out, the crime syndicate sends their ruthless attorney Helen Pierce to town to shake things up just as The Byrdes are finally settling in. Marty and Wendy struggle to balance their family interests amid the escalating dangers presented by their partnerships with the power-hungry Snells, the cartel and their new deputy, Ruth Langmore, whose father Cade has been released from prison. The stakes are even higher than before and The Byrdes soon realize they have to go all in before they can get out.

I caught the first season of the show and found it entertaining, mostly because of the work of Bateman and Linney. I have yet to check out season two, but I hear they're both just as good as ever, which means I can expect to enjoy myself. Netflix has a hit on their hands here, so I would expect they're going to get as much out of this show as they can.

OZARK is currently streaming on Netflix.
