Netflix renews Big Mouth for season three

Netflix has gone ahead and canceled some fan-favorite shows recently – like LUKE CAGE and AMERICAN VANDAL – but they aren’t dumb enough to get rid of everything people love. One of the best, most loved shows on the service is no doubt the animated series BIG MOUTH, and now Netflix has done a very wise thing and renewed the crass, hyper-sexual animated show about the awkward teen years for a third season.

The streaming giant announced this weekend (via Variety) that the series from Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldenberg, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett was being picked up for another season after the second debuted at the start of last month. The first season was popular, but it seems this even better second season had more people talking as the show cemented its status as one of the best adult-geared animated shows around, pushing boundaries and comfort zones to bring to life the most cringe-worthy and definitive years of our lives. And it’s just f**king hysterical.

The series stars the voices of Kroll, John Mulaney, Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, Jenny Slate, Jordan Peele, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, with supporting roles filled by Kristen Bell, Nathan Fillion, June Diane Raphael, Richard Kind, Paula Pell and so many others. This season added Gina Rodriguez (JANE THE VIRGIN) and David Thewlis (HARRY POTTER 3), with the latter being praised for his work as the Shame Wizard, a villainous but oddly endearing character that the normally dramatic actor embraced hilariously and wholeheartedly. No word on when the new season will air, but the first season aired in the final week of September in 2017 and the second in the first week on last month, so that may give us some kind of hint.

BIG MOUTH's second season was the one where if people scrolled past the first in the Netflix lineup they immediately kicked themselves for being so dumb and binged both seasons. The show's popularity went into the stratosphere and proved why it's one of the smartest shows to tackle those early teen years – and it does it by brilliantly throwing caution to the wind and being afraid to go where it needs to. It's one of the best shows you can watch on Netflix (let alone in an afternoon), and fans will be waiting eagerly for what season three has in store.
