Netflix orders The Babysitter sequel with McG returning to direct

Huzzah! According to a recent listing posted by Production Weekly, one of my favorite horror films from 2017, THE BABYSITTER, is getting a sequel! Word has it that Netflix has placed an order for the follow-up, which has McG returning as the film's director. Moreover, reports also indicate that cameras will begin rolling on the project as early as this October. No official casting announcements have been made, though if you consider that cliffhanger ending from the original, it's possible that Samara Weaving's Bee will be back to exact her revenge on Judah Lewis' Cole, the 12-year-old boy who put a supposed end to his babysitter's reign of terror.

Hmm, well, he'd be a bit older now, wouldn't he? Perhaps they'll recast?

For those of you who've yet to see THE BABYSITTER, the dark comedy follows a curious, 12-year-old boy named Cole who has the hots for his babysitter, Bee. One night, during a routine hangout sesh with his favorite girl next door, Cole discovers that his beloved babysitter and her friends are part of a satanic cult that plans to kill him. Things take a dark turn rather quickly, and soon Cole finds himself being hunted by Bee and her hapless band of cultist compatriots, as played by Bella Thorne, Andrew Bachelor, Robbie Amell and Hana Mae Lee.

As of the moment, there is no telling if the sequel will continue the events of the first film or perhaps follow a different babysitter and their underage victim. While writer Brian Duffield penned the original film, screenwriter Dan Lagana (AMERICAN VANDAL) is poised to draft the sequel.

Casting for THE BABYSITTER sequel is underway with filming expected to roll through this year's Thanksgiving holiday. We'll be sure to bring you updates on the project as they develop.
