Such is the case with vampires, you might want to exercise a bit of caution before you allow Netflix to enter your home, because the streaming giant is about to institute a price hike for subscribers in the U.S. that will have the service costing more than ever before. According to a report made by The Associated Press, "Netflix is raising its U.S. prices by 13 percent to 18 percent, its biggest increase since the company launched its streaming service 12 years ago." As of this moment, the updated pricing structure is already being implemented for new subscribers, and is expected to hit existing users right in the bank account over the next few months.
When looking at the math of Netflix's new stratagem, you'll find that the most popular plan the streamer has to offer will increase from $11 to $13 (this includes the HD feed that can be installed on up to two devices). The least expensive plan will rise from $8 to $9, with the most expensive package being hiked from $14 to $16.
As part of an effort to explain the increase in pricing, Netflix released a statement that said, “We change pricing from time to time as we continue investing in great entertainment and improving the overall Netflix experience.” In other words, Netflix needs more of your money to help pay for licences to hosted content, as they continue to build their own library of original films, TV series, documentaries, and other offerings. To be fair, when you consider how varied Netflix's roster has become over the past few years, it should come as no surprise that they're looking to siphon a bit more blood from their loyal customer base. Personally, I use Netflix just about every day, and a dollar or two isn't going to break me. Still, I can understand why others would be frustrated by the increase, particularly if the amount of time you have to use the service is limited. After all, life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and watch Netflix once in a while, what are you paying for?
