Like his fellow Saturday Night Live alum Adam Sandler, Eddie Murphy might also be taking his talents to Netflix.
Deadline is reporting that the streaming service is in negotiations for a music mockumentary titled SOUL SOUL SOUL: THE MURRAY MURRAY STORY. The film would see Murphy playing the titular Murray, "a soul singer from the early 1960s, in a docu about his life. Murray Murray, a legend in his own mind, puts his old band back together and tries to take down hip-hop when a hot artist samples his hit song from 1962."
Murphy's TOWER HEIST helmer Brett Ratner is attached to direct the project from a script by Sin City Saints co-creator Chris Case, with Brian Grazer and Tyler Mitchell producing.
Based on Murphy and Ratner's track record, the film could go either way, but SOUL SOUL SOUL does sound like it has the potential to be a fun flick, and I'm hopeful that it will be a solid entry in the mockumentary genre.
Murphy is attached to star in the now Lee Daniels-less Richard Pryor biopic, while Ratner next directorial effort will be THE LIBERTINE starring Johnny Depp and Marion Cotillard.
