Lately, I've bouncing between a few different anime offerings on Netflix, by tuning into shows and movies like: LITTLE WITCH ACADEMIA, DEATH NOTE, YOUR LIE IN APRIL, and PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA. Now, it's been announced that the premiere streaming service will soon be offering 13 more series, plus one full-length animated feature. Fantastic. Why don't you just go right head and gobble up all of my free time, Netflix?
Among the varied list of anime series to hit the channel, DEVILMAN: CRYBABY is worth taking into consideration. It's based on the classic series by Go Nagai, and will consist of just 10 episodes, each one of them helping to tell the tale of a world overrun by demons. DEVILMAN: CRYBABY is expected to hit Netflix in the Spring of 2018.
According to Gamespot, another series worth looking out for is A.I.C.O. INCARNATION, an anime in which a 15-year-old Aiko Tachibana, who lost her family in a terrible accident deemed "the Burst", learns something unbelievable from Yuya Kanzaki, a new student at her school. Once informed that there's a secret hidden within her body, and the answer to the puzzle lies at the 'Primary Point' that was the center of the Burst. This series will be presented over the course of 12 episodes.
Another series that is sure to have BOONDOCKS fans buzzing is CANNON BUSTERS, a show from the co-creator of the hard-hitting urban animation. In the show, a droid, a discarded robot, and a fugitive will embark on a journey together. The the story of that show will play out over the course of 12 episodes, and is part of a partnership between BOONDOCKS co-creator, LeSean Thomas and Crunchyroll. Additionally, Thomas will also help to create another series with Crunchyroll entitled CHILDREN OF ETHER.
In regard to the other anime series that are scheduled to hit Netflix, here's a handy-dandy list featuring each of the upcoming shows:
B: THE BEGINNING – crime thriller that debuts Spring 2018 with 12 episodes made by Production I.G. (GHOST IN THE SHELL)
SWORD GAI: THE ANIMATION – action fantasy debuting Spring 2018
LOST SONG – fantasy series with 12 episodes slated for 2018
RILAKUMMA SERIES – 13-episode series based on the popular mascot character
KNIGHTS OF THE ZODIAC: SAINT SEIYA – 12 episodes based on the popular '80s manga
BAKI – 26 episodes based on the classic martial arts manga
KAKEGURUI – a gambling-themed series that will premiere in 2018
FATE/APOCRYPHA – 25-episode season as part of the popular Fate series, premiering November 7th in North America and December 2nd in Japan
CHILDREN OF THE WHALES – "a world covered by oceans of sand" debuting in 2018
Also, GODZILLA: MONSTER PLANET, though previously announced, was lumped into this announcement, if only to remind people that it's still happening. Personally, I'm really excited for this one. The show takes place in a ravaged future where the King of Monsters, Godzilla, has been actively stomp-happy for 20,000 years. Can you imagine the endless cleanup on a situation like that? What do you do with all the giant lizard's waste? Re-purpose it, I'm sure, but still.
And lastly, be on the lookout for an inevitable PERSONA 5 anime adaptation, which was recently announced and is scheduled to air in Japan sometime in 2018. This series will no doubt be based upon the uber-popular Playstation 4 release from earlier this year.
