I believe it was an imp-like creature by the name of Rumpelstiltskin who once warned that "all magic comes with a price," and I have a feeling that a young witch by the name of Sabrina Spellman is going to have to pay up when RIVERDALE creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA comes to Netflix. Earlier today, the series' official Twitter account summoned a new poster that finds the show's titular character proudly holding her 16th birthday cake. As the crimson wax drips down onto the icing like so much blood, a demonic figure can be seen sneaking up on the smiling spellcaster from behind. For Sabrina's sake, I hope she makes one hell of a wish upon blowing out the flickering flames.
In addition to the poster's debut, the tweet also cautions that, "Something witchy is coming your way tomorrow." After consulting my Oujia board, all signs point to us getting a teaser trailer, though the spirits have lied to me before. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.
Here's the official synopsis for CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA:
Wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal, while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit. Sabrina Spellman is described as an empowered young woman — half-human, half-witch — who is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High. Intelligent, compassionate and brave to the point of recklessness, Sabrina is all that stands between us and the forces of darkness that threaten our world.
Starring in the highly-anticipated series as Sabrina Spellman is MAD MEN's Kiernan Shipka, who is set to be joined in the darker corners of the Archieverse by Lucy Davis as the doting Aunt Hilda, Miranda Otto as the spell-savvy Aunt Zelda, Ross Lynch as Sabrina's love interest Harvey Kinkle, Richard Coyle as Father Blackwood, High Priest of the Church of Night and Dean of the Academy of the Unseen Arts, with Tati Babrielle as Prudence, Michelle Gomez as Mary Wardell, and Chance Paerdomo as Ambrose Spellman, among others.
The ten-episode first season (with 10 additional episodes already ordered by Netflix for Season 2) will gather on the streaming platform beginning on October 26th.
