Many of you were probably psyched to get some more Eleven action and Chief Hopper dance moves when STRANGER THINGS season three this fall. Sadly, you’ll have to wait for that good stuff for almost another year as Netflix has confirmed that the latest season is being bumped back to Summer 2019.

Cindy Holland, vice president of original programming at Netflix, spoke during the Television Critics Association press tour yesterday and addressed the delay, saying, “It’s a hand-crafted show. The Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy have worked really hard … and want to deliver something bigger and better than they did last year. They want to take the time to get it right. I think it will be a fantastic season and will be worth the wait.”
Considering the show was expected to drop this fall we haven’t see a whole lot in terms of footage or teasers. We do know a bit about the plot and how it will find the young teens dealing with budding love, and we got a far-out video teaser the new Starcourt Mall coming to Hawkins (above).
Holland continued, saying, “Nothing has changed with respect to Stranger Things. It’s a fantastic season. There are more special effects, and I think it’s going to be a really exciting season but it just takes a little more time.”

Season two ended with the Shadow Monster looming over the school in Hawkins during the big dance, hinting that there was still plenty of evil heading for the small town. Should some truly supernatural mayhem ensue that would require some much bigger sets and VFX than we’ve seen in the past two seasons and would logically explain why it’s taking a bit more time to put it together. Still, it sucks we have to wait even more time for more strangeness, but I guess if we’re going to visit the Ahoy! ice cream shop it makes sense for it to be during the summer time.
STRANGER THINGS season three will hit Netflix Summer 2019.
