The live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece sailed to the top of Netflix’s English-language TV charts during a formidable premiere week with 18.5M views from August 28 to September 3. One Piece is performing well across the board after being in the Top 10 in 93 countries, with a first-place finish in 46. Despite mixed reviews, One Piece is hitting big with fans of Oda’s long-running manga and anime series. It was a trending topic across social media throughout Labor Day weekend, with many singing the show’s praises.
Per Netflix‘s official press release, the UK thriller Who Is Erin Carter? also had a solid second week with 15.8M views, ranking second. Making their list debuts were the docuseries Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones, which took third place with 5.7M views, and Disenchantment Part 5, which took tenth place with 4.6M views. Returning titles rounded out the list, including Painkiller at #4 (3.4M views), The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On Season 2 at #5 (3.1M views), Depp V. Heard at #6 (2.7M views), Untold: Swamp Kings at #7 (1.9M views), and Gabby’s Dollhouse Season 8 at #9 (1.5M views).
On the film side, Adam Sandler’s You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah claimed the crown for Netflix’s English Films list in its second week of release with 21.9M views. The Monkey King, starring Jimmy O, took second place (6.6M views), and Heart of Stone, starring Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, and Alia Bhatt, grabbed third with 5.2M views. Meanwhile, the interactive comedy Choose Love, in which viewers make choices for the main character, Cami, as she navigates her love life, debuted in fourth place with 6.5M views.
Sammi Cohen directs You Are So Not Invited to My Batmitzvah from a script by Alison Peck and Fiona Rosenbloom. The coming-of-age comedy revolves around Stacy and Lydia, two BFFs who’ve always dreamed about having epic Bat Mitzvahs. However, things go comically awry when a popular boy and middle school drama threaten their friendship and rite of passage. Adam Sandler stars alongside daughters Sadie Sandler and Sunny Sandler, with Idina Menzel, Jackie Sandler, Samantha Lorraine, Dylan Hoffman, Dan Bulla, Sarah Sherman, and Ido Mosseri.
