Netflix acquires Hush, new Blumhouse thriller from Oculus director

Netflix, which has pretty much become the go-to destination for alternative original content, has just made another intriguing acquisition. The Blumhouse picture HUSH, helmed by OCULUS director Mike Flanagan will be joining the ranks on the streaming service on April 8th.

Co-written by Flanagan and his wife Kate Siegel (who also stars), here's the story of HUSH:

After losing her hearing as a teenager, author Maddie Young (Siegel) has lived a life of isolation fully retreating into her now silent world. When the masked face of a psychotic killer appears in the window of her secluded home, she must push herself beyond her mental and physical limits in order to survive the night.

This could lead to some really interesting use of sound mixing, much like how the Spanish blindness-themed thriller LOS OJOS DE JULIA (JULIA'S EYES) used framing and lighting to evoke the frightening loss of a key sense. Mike Flanagan was up to some very interesting things in OCULUS, so personally I can't wait to see what he does with HUSH. In less exciting news, you can also see his work in OUIJA 2, coming out October 21st.

HUSH also stars John Gallagher Jr. (SHORT TERM 12), Samantha Sloyan (PLUS ONE), and Michael Trucco (NEXT).
