NES Jason is being added into the new Friday the 13th game

I haven't gotten a chance to play the newly released Friday the 13th: The Game yet, but it appears that my fellow F13 fans are having a great time playing against each other in online multiplayer games, despite being hindered by some server issues.

In an effort to make up for those server problems, the developers at Gun Media have announced they will be offering the first content update for free tomorrow, June 20th.

The update will include the following:

New clothing for all counselors

A Double XP weekend lasting June 23rd to June 25th

13,000 Customization Points to every account

Also in the update is a new look for our hockey masked slasher icon Jason Voorhees, who already has multiple looks to choose from in the game, based on what he looked like in various F13 sequels (plus a special new look designed by Tom Savini). This update look is a familiar one, but it wasn't in any of the movies…

When Friday the 13th: The Game was nearing release, there was one thing that was very clear – this game's Jason, brought to life through a motion capture performance by four-time Jason actor Kane Hodder, was going to look a hell of a lot better than the Jason featured in the previous Friday the 13th game, which was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989. But now, NES Jason, or "Retro" Jason as Gun Media is calling him, will be joining the new game in all his purple and blue glory.

'Retro' Jason complete with chip tune music inspired by classic '80s games as written and performed by Mitch Murder

Although the sight of Jason wearing a purple jumpsuit and a blue glow-in-the-dark mask had fans saying WTF when they got the NES game back in the day, a sense of nostalgia has developed around NES / Retro Jason in recent years. NECA released an action figure that had the NES look, followed by a wearable NES Jason hockey mask. There was even a fan film made in which Jason had his NES look. And now NES Jason is entering the modern gaming world.

Welcome back, you purple and blue maniac.

Content Update #1

Our team wants to thank everyone for their support and patience after a rocky launch with an entirely free update coming June 20th! Who's ready to check out Retro Jason?
