Neill Blomkamp’s Demonic photos offer first look at supernatural thriller

While most of us were busy getting fat during the pandemic (not that there's anything wrong with that), Neill Blomkamp went and shot a secret horror thriller which will be released later this summer. Demonic will tell the story of a young woman who unleashes "terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades old rift between mother and daughter are revealed." Entertainment Weekly has the first photos from the upcoming thriller, which you can check out below.

"The whole planet was shutting down and the plans that I had for other bigger films were put on hold," Blomkamp told Entertainment Weekly. "Living out here in this slightly more rural area I was thinking we should self-finance something so that we could make something cool. For a long time, I've been really interested in films like Paranormal Activity, and lower budget stuff that is pretty terrifying, and so we just started working on this concept. It grew and it got bigger than films like Paranormal Activity but it was cut from the same cloth really. So that's what it is. We made use out of a lot of the locations out here and just shot it through the summer." Blomkamp added that the film is something of a "crossover between science fiction and horror," and stars Carly Pope, Chris William Martin, and Michael Rogers. Blomkamp also shared a little Super 8mm sneak-peek at the set of Demonic.

Demonic will be unleashed in theaters on August 20, 2021, and on VOD/Digital on August 27, 2021.
