Neil Blomkamp might not direct Alien 5 after all

Man, people were excited about Neil Blomkamp's ALIEN 5. And while his track record is more than a bit spotty (with, I'd argue, only one good film under his belt), the concept art he tweeted was inspiring. So much so, FOX actually commissioned him to start development on the film based on them.

Then…nothing. It was said production was halted because of Ridley Scott's competing PROMETHEUS trilogy (with ALIEN: COVENANT being the second film in that trilogy), and Blomkamp being asked to wait until those had run their course.

However, according to a recent tweet, that may no longer be the case:

I personally don't see this as any big loss. Again, other than DISTRICT 9, I think Blomkamp hasn't made anything worthwhile. And, while not a big fan of what Fincher did to the characters of Newt and Hicks in ALIEN 3, I still feel his concept art came off too "fan-fic-y", and seemed to be made entirely for wish-fulfillment purposes. Still looked better than PROMETHEUS, I guess.

But that's just me. What about you Schmoes? Were you looking forward to Blomkamp's ALIEN 5? If so, you still excited for Scott's prequel series?

While Blomkamp's ALIEN 5 will be released most likely never, Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT will creep towards your theaters May 19th, 2017.
