NBC’s Dracula bites Katie McGrath and Nonsoe Anozie

Casting news for NBC’s upcoming 10-episode modern-day reimagining of “Dracula” has been heating up over the past couple of weeks. We’ve known for a while that Jonathan Rhys Meyers had solidified the role of the bloodthirsty Count and last week we shared the news that Jessica De Gouw had joined the cast as Mina Murray, a medical student and the reincarnation of the titular vamps long dead beloved. Today we have two more names to add to the growing cast list.

Deadline is reporting that “Merlin” star Katie McGrath and Nonso Anozie (who appeard in the Liam Neeson-starring THE GREY) have been cast opposite De Gouw and Meyers in the series that re-introduces Dracula as he arrives in London, posing as American entrepreneur Alan Grayson who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. In reality, he hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier but falls hopelessly in love with Mina Murray who appears to be the reincarnation of his dead wife.

TV Line is reporting that McGrath will play Lucy Westenra, a sexy, glamorous socialite and best friend to Mina who gradually becomes entwined in a web of lies, lust and temptation that challenges the boundaries of their relationship. Anozie has been cast to play Renfield, the “fiercely loyal confidante of Dracula’s alter ego, Alan Grayson. Renfield is the keeper of Dracula’s deepest and darkest secrets and the stabilizing force that allows his two personas to successfully coexist.”

NBC has yet to set a premiere date for the series.
