NBC orders Constantine to pilot

Back in September we brought you the news that David S. Goyer (BATMAN BEGINS) was attempting to bring DC comics character John Constantine of the "Hellblazer" series to the small screen for NBC and today we've learned that the peacock network has ordered the project to pilot!

THR is reporting that "Constantine" has been given official pilot orders with Goyer and Daniel Cerone ("The Mentalist") executive producing as well as penning the script for the pilot. The character first appeared in Alan Moore's "The Saga of the Swamp Thing", which was co-created by Steve Bissette and Jamie Delano. The long-running comic was adapted into the 2005 feature film CONSTANTINE starring Keanu Reeves and is rumored to be featured in the JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK feature Warner Bros. has in the works with Guillermo del Toro.

Based on the Hellblazer graphic novels, the Constantine series centers on master of the occult John Constantine, who is struggling with his faith as he is haunted by the sins of his past but is suddenly thrust into the role of defending humanity from the gathering forces of darkness.

So let's hear it! Does this news excite you? Do you think "Constantine" will work better as a series than it ever could as a feature film? With Goyer onboard my hopes for this pilot are high!
