The Star Wars prequels may not be as beloved as the original trilogy, but there’s plenty about them that has remained famous after all these years. One of them is the immaculate, awesomely-absurd costume and hair of Queen Amidala/Padmé in the very first prequel – THE PHANTOM MENACE. The red dress, white facial makeup and the hair that looks like someone took a big bite out of a doughnut made for a pretty iconic look. Natalie Portman took to the SNL stage for the first time in 12 years last night, and now that the new Star Wars movies are all the rage with the kids, of course they were going to have her bring back the glamorously dressed character. This new verion of the queen has a bit of a chip on her shoulder, and it’s probably not best to say some shit about the prequels around her.
The video is a follow-up to the rap video Portman did over a decade ago on SNL, which became viral when going viral was still a new thing. There was no way they weren't going to do a new video, and this one was also done by The Lonely Island and had an appearence by Andy Samberg. Portman has gone to Oscar glory in her years since that first SNL video, and it's great to see that she's still a pot-smoking, ass-kicking, no-f**ks-giving rebel.
See Portman next in ANNIHILATION on February 23.
