Word has reached the confetti-covered streets of a 1938 Los Angeles that Natalie Dormer is traveling from the Seven Kingdoms of GAME OF THRONES to the dark corners of Showtime’s PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS. As a spiritual successor to the fan-favorite supernatural series, PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS is a new show from original series’ creator, writer and executive producer John Logan. The show is expected to introduce League of Extraordinary Gentlemen lovers to a new locale, new characters and new tales to tell.
When PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS emerges from the shadows, Logan’s twisted tale will take place in a 1938 Los Angeles; a time and place that’s rife with social and political upheaval. As the story plays out, viewers will be introduced to a murder most foul that shakes the city to its core. Enter Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto), a man who finds himself at the mercy of a ruthless Los Angeles; from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. (via Deadline) Soon, Tiago and his kin find themselves battling against powerful forces that threaten to tear them (and the city) asunder.
As the show’s cunning chameleon of sorts, Dormer will play Magda, a demon who can alter itself to look like anyone it chooses. According to reports, Magda will arrive as several different personas throughout the season. As a chaotic-neutral character, Magda aligns with no one, unless its in its interest to do so. Jessica Garza and Jonathan Nieves will also star.
