Now that Toho's ATTACK ON TITAN is off the ground, it seems like the American producers decided to kick it up a notch on DEATH NOTE, their own live-action anime adaptation helmed by THE GUEST's Adam Wingard. Nat Wolff, who made a name for himself in the teen misery porn flick THE FAULT IN OUR STARS as well as the following John Green adaptation PAPER TOWNS, has been cast in the lead role.
If you were to pluck any single actor out of the teenybopper strata and plunge him into a story as dark as this, he's probably one of the best choices. A fresh talent with an eye for managing many different tones, it'll be interesting to see where he takes the role.
DEATH NOTE centers on a student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone by writing the victim's name, who then decides to cleanse the world of whom he deems evil. As the student is tracked by a reclusive police officer, a cat-and-mouse game ensues.
DEATH NOTE will begin shooting this Spring with a script by Jeremy Slater (THE LAZARUS EFFECT).
